Ingredients
- 1 lb (450g) chicken breast, sliced thin
- 3 tbsp olive oil
- 2 tbsp lemon juice
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 4 pita breads
- 1 cup cherry tomatoes, sliced
- 1 small red onion, thinly sliced
- 1 cup lettuce or cucumber slices
- Tzatziki Sauce:
- 1 cup Greek yogurt
- 1/2 cucumber, grated & drained
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp fresh dill or mint
- Salt & pepper to taste
Instructions
- Marinate the chicken: In a bowl, mix olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, oregano, salt, and pepper. Add the chicken and coat well. Marinate 20–30 minutes.
- Prepare the tzatziki: Mix yogurt, grated cucumber, lemon juice, garlic, dill, salt, and pepper. Chill until serving.
- Cook the chicken: Heat a skillet over medium-high. Cook chicken for 5–7 minutes until golden and cooked through.
- Warm the pitas: Heat them in a pan or microwave for a few seconds until soft.
- Assemble the gyros: Spread tzatziki inside each pita. Add chicken, tomatoes, onions, and lettuce.
- Serve: Add extra tzatziki on top and enjoy warm.
Notes
For deeper flavor, marinate the chicken overnight. Use naan or tortilla if you don’t have pita. Add feta cheese or olives for extra Mediterranean flair.
