Ingredients

  • 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 tbsp cocoa powder

  • 1 tsp baking soda

  • ½ tsp salt

  • ¾ cup unsalted butter, softened

  • ¾ cup granulated sugar

  • ¼ cup brown sugar

  • 1 large egg

  • 1 tbsp red food coloring

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  • In a bowl, whisk flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.

  • In another bowl, cream butter and sugars until light and fluffy.

  • Add egg, vanilla, and red food coloring; mix until combined.

  • Gradually mix in dry ingredients until just combined.

  • Fold in chocolate chips.

  • Scoop dough onto baking sheet, spacing evenly.

  • Bake for 10–12 minutes until edges are set.

  • Cool for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.

Notes

  • Do not overbake to keep cookies soft and chewy

  • Chill dough 20 minutes if cookies spread too much

  • White chocolate chips can be used for variation
